A string half the length (1/2), square root the tension (√2), or inverse the mass per length (1/√2) is an octave higher (2/1). If the tension on a string is ten lbs., it must be increased to 40 lbs. for a pitch an octave higher.
I'm a Wikipedian and I'm queer. I also have a currently uncontrolled seizure condition/epilepsy including generalized tonic–clonic seizures ("grand mal"). What to do if a person has a seizure: [1]. My contributions are mostly music related.
